Workbench!

Lookee there! That’s my new workbench, ready to use. A friend who loves woodworking and had all of the necessary tools and know-how came over and built it for us, for which I am extremely grateful. The post in the middle is sunk into the garage floor and filled with concrete to protect the back wall. so we had to design around it… Made for quite a tall workbench, but that’s actually quite nice for the finer detail work I’m generally doing. Thanks, Bucky!

wrote previously about how inspired I was by the play about the life of Buckminster Fuller, and I mentioned that I was going to design some things in his honor. Well, I’ve just recently completed and posted the first few of those: the  Bucky ball pendant pictured here, and a tetrahedron pendant (if you are curious as to why a tetrahedron, go ahead and look at that page, I explain it there). I’m quite happy how they turned out, and have some related things in the works.

Ponoko a-go-go

This week I received my first order back from Ponoko. If you are interested in making things and you haven’t heard of them, you should really check them out – it’s a company based in New Zealand that allows you to upload either a vector graphic file or a photo of something you’ve designed and have it laser-cut and etched into any one of a number of possible materials.
